Safety

Propane’s low working pressure, narrow flammability range, higher ignition temperature and rigorous testing make it a very safe alternative fuel.

• Propane has a narrower flammability range than compressed natural gas.
• Propane vehicle tanks have a working pressure of 312 psi. Natural gas tanks have a working pressure of 3,600 psi.
• Propane vehicle tanks are 20 times more puncture resistant than gasoline or diesel tanks and are tested at up to four times their normal operating pressure.

Infrastructure

Propane autogas has the most developed refueling infrastructure of all alternative fuels in the U.S. and the number of new stations is quickly expanding.

• The number of propane autogas refueling stations across the nation has risen to more than 2,600, and is rapidly increasing.
• As a fleet operator, you have the flexibility to install your own refueling site. At an average cost of $40,000 you could build nearly 30 sites for the cost of only one compressed natural gas station. Some propane fuel providers even offer no-cost infrastructure with a fuel contract.
